Press Release

The crashing of the waves on the sand punctuated the story of the woman sitting on the lounge chair beside me. Dressed in a long, white capped sleeve dress, Suzanne Sukhram-Farmer drank coconut water straight from the coconut, a little of it dripping from her mouth as she smiled widely at me. She was back in her country of origin, after tremendous success with her business and now, her bestselling book. It’s not every day that a successful daughter of the soil returns home and grants an interview, so I was soaking it up.

“What was your turning point?” I asked Sukhram-Farmer. “You said you had been in business for 20 years when you had your breakthrough,” I reminded her, as she looked at me thoughtfully. “What happened to make things so different?”

With a serious look on her face, she turned to look at the waves. Taking a deep breath, she looked back at me. I could see tears glistening in her eyes.

“I found myself,” she stated calmly, but not without emotion. “The year that I celebrated being in network marketing for 20 years was the year everything changed. For years I had heard that personal development was key, and all the “fake it till you make it” mantras, and that positive thinking was the way to change my life. Apart from offering books, no one had a step by step method that would take me from Point A to Point B. The Master Key system had that.

“I admit, some of the things in the Master Key sounded woo-woo,” she said laughing. And there were some things that I had a hard time with, being a Christian. The habits, though, that I learned, and the application of stilling my mind and body, began to bring things into focus. I realized that the habits I had formed as an adult, as an older adult – not the young person who graduated from college full of dreams – had been destroying my chances of happiness and success. I had started projects and not completed them, and whenever I did that, it reinforced that habit of failure, which then caused more and more failure, until my self-esteem dropped.”

“Deciding to do the Master Key mastermind Alliance was the best thing I did for myself, and for my business. Following through on those small tasks and then seeing the success when I got them done – that set the new habit of consistency up and then the small successes grew.”

Looking back out at the horizon, Sukhram-Farmer took a deep breath. “My daughter did the MKMMA with me. We’ve always been close, but the experience of doing this, and having assignments that we did together was…” Her voice trailed off as she seemed to be searching for words. “I don’t want to say something trite like ‘amazing’… it made it that much more powerful, because I had a partner, someone to talk things over with, and to mastermind with.”

I leaned forward.

“So how HAS your life changed?”

“Apart from having a bestselling book?” she laughed.

“Yes,” I replied. “Tell me everything.”

“When I started this process, I was a tired, overweight, not-very-happy-with-herself homeschooling mom. I was consistently worried about finances, and whether we would ever be able to help our son and daughter with any of their college expenses. The constant worry I had about finances kept me right where I was, constantly manifesting situations that were centered about not having enough money.”

“I know it sounds weird,” she said, “but truly, the small habits I mentioned lead to larger habits. Soon I was doing more and thinking more positively, and then soon I found myself actually DOING the things I needed to, to advance my dreams and goals. I finished my children’s writing course – the one I had enrolled in when my older daughter was a little girl, and kept putting off. I learned some skills that helped in my network marketing business. Soon, there was money flowing from my writing and my business, and that helped us do some things in terms of starting to live a cash lifestyle…”

She put her hand on my arm with a serious look on her face again. “Did you notice I didn’t talk about eliminating or paying off debt, or credit cards?”

I nodded slowly, wondering where she was going with this.

“That’s because I didn’t want to focus on that,” she explained. When I was learning how to feed my subconscious with what I wanted, I learned that I needed to think, and talk about, things that I wanted to have more of, and that I wanted to associate pleasure and good feelings with. NOT debt, or anything related.”

“I know it sounds like I’m quibbling about words,” she continued, ”but it really is important. It’s about using the power of our subconscious mind, and to do that, we have to state what we want, and do it with ENTHUIASM,” she says, starting to laugh. “That’s how Mark says it.”

Mark, affectionately known as Mark J., along with his wife Davene, is who Sukhram-Farmer credits with the transformation of her life, through the Master Key Mastermind Alliance.

“So…” I began, “you’re crediting this course that you did as the sole breakthrough? Is that right?” I asked, still mystified.

“Don’t get me wrong,” she answered. “In 20 years I learned a lot of things, and I was on the path…I would get sidetracked, though. I’d get sidetracked by shiny objects that I would start to use, or buy, that I would never follow through on. Those habits – remember I was telling you about the habits – they messed me up. So I had the knowledge in my head, but the inner workings…they needed to be majorly overhauled. Putting the two together – the knowledge I had gained with the confidence and habits, it was a one-two punch.”

“Look at me!” She laughed. “How old do I look?”

I shook my head, knowing this was not going to be good for me. “I’m a lousy judge of age,” I answered, still shaking my head.

She continued to laugh.

“How old are you?” I gave up and asked.

She wagged her index finger at me. “Now you know better than to ask a lady that,” she pretended to admonish me.

“You brought it up!” I protested.

“I turned 45 last November,” she told me, grinning.

I would never have guessed it. I am truly bad at guessing age, but I seriously would never have thought she was a day over 35. Sukhram-Farmer started laughing again, and I realized she had probably guessed what I had been thinking.

“Part of the Master Key experience was getting my health back. I started realizing that I needed to take better care of myself. I wasn’t in the best health when I started. Nothing serious, but not great, you know? I got my health back, and last June, I took part in my first triathlon. I have another coming up in a month, so I’m running on the beach while I’m here,” she explained as she looked back out at the setting sun and took a sip of her coconut water.

She rose abruptly and put out her hand. “I’ve loved chatting with you, Brady, but it’s time for my run.”

I stood up and thanked her for the interview. I watched as she ran into the waves a bit before hiking up her skirt and running back to the villa, leaving me to contemplate all that she had told me.
